Enough Of The Funfairs

It has become noticeable that the Tsikata-Zanyoh-led  UGSRC is more of a funfair without recourse to their policies tabled during the run-up to the SRC Campaign the previous year.
We have, and continue to witness only seminars and entertainment programs setting aside cutting-edge programs and projects that would contribute to the development needs of students. Most importantly, breaking away from their policy focus and direction.
The most bizarre and absurd is the secular and photages of the SRC President and his team popped up on various social media handles purported to have met with KNUST SRC Secretary and other executives to strengthen ties and consolidate support for mutual benefit, assuming a role that is coterminous with that of NUGS President. Unless the motive behind is that he intends to contest for NUGS Portfolio.
This stunning gesture has caused euphoria, with some students anticipatingthe SRC President continuing his tour to UCC, Winneba, and UDS among others.
This gesture is being described as self-acclaimed and imposed by some sections of student leaders.
The UGSRC President promised to honor his promises when the baton was handed to him. Only about 10% of such promises had been partially fulfilled, leaving about 90% unfulfilled.
On the academic front, he promised the following:
• Revamping the Online Library System
• Introduction of a 360 supplementary resit support
• Student Academic Support Services
• Student Exchange Programs
• SRC Intervention Loans
• Mitigate Mass Student Deferment
• Engagement with UG management for the re-introduction the 50-30-20% fee payment policy.
On social & security
• Pitch4Fund Entrepreneurial Venture
• Skills Hub and International Language Classes
• Incentives for Sportsmen/Women
• Partnership with UG Sports Directorate to introduce
experiential transcripts specially for sportspersons
• Professional Development & Career Support; job fairs, workshops, internship opportunities, etc.
• Light up campus project
• Security Posts at vantage points
• Collaborative Partnerships with JCR & Satellite Campuses to implement joint
 security initiatives
On health & exit policies
• A 24-hour operational SRC Pharmacy Project
• Mass NHIS registration and renewal for students
• Climate Action Activities
• Scholarship abroad opportunities for Postgraduate studies
• Partnership with Professional Bodies, eg: ACCA, CIMA, IHRM, ICAG, etc.
• Medals for all graduating students
On welfare;
• Careers and Counseling Units in JCRs
• Introduction of Electronic Counseling for Students
• Continuation of the SRC Food Bank Initiative
• Introduction of the SRC Executive Purse Scholarship Scheme
• Shuttle bus pickup points at stations close to campus to aid non-residents' transportation
• Collaboration partnerships with JCRs and UG Management in procuring WiFi routers
• Introduction of Movable Locker Shelves designated at exam centers to securely keep the belongings of students.
On special needs students
• Creation of a scholarship scheme for students with special needs
• Delivery Service Provision
• Procurement of Desktops to aid academic work at UGCS
• Significant Inclusion in Committee Leadership and Membership
On satellite campuses
• Inclusion of city, distance, and Korlebu campus students in committee Leadership and Membership
• Online accommodation booking portal for Distance Education students
• Renovation of lecture halls Project
• Distribution of SRC programs to all campuses
• Extension of mass NHIS registration, E-Zwich Card Registration, etc across all satellite campuses.
Most of the above projects are ones that are being embarked upon by the university, not the SRC, for instance, renovation of lecture halls, the introduction of 50-30-20% of academic and residential fees, and scholarships for special needs, among numerous others.
Enough of the self-acclimatization, popular acclamation, and self imposition and funfairs.Student leadership is a serious business. Embark on action-oriented, not sweet words. Indeed posterity will be the best judge.

Stephanie Naadu's 100 Days In Office Is A Failure

Ag. University of Ghana Students' Representative Council Presid8ent, Stephanie Naadu's appointment is more of a ceremonial orientation than an administrative orientation. She was elected by the student populace as a general secretary to take records of the UGSRC and write minutes among other things. However, owing to the impasse between the two substantive UGSRC presidential candidates at the Court of Appeal, she was appointed by the school management to spearhead, supervise and steer the affairs of students within the Union Building. It is quite unfortunate for the declared winner and plaintiff, Prince Asumadu who sought redress at the Accra High Court to be sworn in as the duly elected president, which went in his favour. The respondent, the previous Chief Justice had sought for appeal at the Court of Appeal to overturn the ruling of the high court to install Samuel Amos Ofosu as the validly elected president. Stephanie Naadu has been fortunate and she needs to take advantage...

Excerpts From The Speech Of The UGSRC President On The State Of The SRC Address

GENERAL ASSEMBLY SPEAKER WARNS SRC EXECUTIVE OFFICERS

The newly elected speaker of the University of Ghana General Assembly and also former SRC Vice Presidential Aspirant, Ahmad Ramzy has given a sound of caution to the President of the Students' Representative Council, Martin Gyasi Boakye, and his Vice President, Emmanuel Boakye Lincoln to consider the Constitution of the Council in the selection and appointment of its executives for the 65th Administration. He cited that there is a provision in the constitution that enjoins the General Assembly to appoint or approve the entire membership of committees and not just heads of committees. The communique signed speaker conveys that G.A. is entitled to appoint and approve the heads and members of the audit board. He warns them against old aged legacy appointments made by the executives of those special appointments within the purview of the G.A His motives are to ensure transparency, and also value for money within the SRC.
